Mystery, History, Fantasy and Romance

Historian Isobel “Izzy” Devereux is obsessed with the legend of a knight who vanished in 1215. When she meets the handsome and mysterious William Danvers, she finds herself falling for a modern man while still chasing a medieval ghost. As their lives entwine with a film production about her knight, Izzy discovers that love, destiny, and history are tangled in ways she never imagined, forcing a choice that could rewrite time itself.

Fans of these books should enjoy A Knight of her Own.

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon: This is a very strong parallel. Like Outlander, this manuscript features an intelligent, modern female protagonist who is transported back in time and falls in love with a historical warrior. Both stories masterfully blend detailed historical settings with a central, epic romance that defies the boundaries of time, forcing the characters to navigate the cultural and physical challenges of a bygone era.

  1. The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger: This novel shares the theme of a romance fractured and defined by unpredictable time travel. While the mechanics are different, the emotional core is similar: a relationship where love is the only constant in a life unmoored from linear time. The story explores the longing, waiting, and steadfast devotion required to love someone who exists partially outside of one's own timeline.

  2. A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness: This book resonates with the manuscript’s blend of academia, history, and supernatural romance. The protagonist, Diana Bishop, is a historian at Oxford who uncovers a magical world and falls for a centuries-old creature (a vampire). Like Izzy, Diana is an academic whose scholarly pursuits lead her into a world of myth and destiny, forcing her to reconcile her rational mind with an impossible love.
